The Vanguard Combat Shirt is an advanced combat shirt designed for operations in harsh terrain, where freedom of movement, abrasion resistance, and effective moisture management are essential. It is the first layer in the system, meant to work with you – without restrictions and without compromise.

Functional materials in key zones

The torso is made of Polartec® PowerDry FR knit – elastic, pleasant to the touch, and effectively wicking moisture away from the body. This material not only enhances thermal comfort but also performs reliably during prolonged wear under a plate carrier. The sleeves are made of NYCO fabric (cotton + nylon) – abrasion- and tear-resistant, while remaining breathable.

Reinforcements and combat details

The elbow zones are additionally reinforced with Cordura® 500D, while also serving as pockets for protective pads – without the need for extra layers. On the shoulders, there are YKK® zippered pockets, and the velcro panels sewn on them allow for personalization (flags, ID, IR).

European sizing with a close North American fit

Direct Action uses European-style size labelling. On this Vanguard Combat Shirt, the fit is very close to standard North American sizing and is not considered a noticeably small fit. Fair D Canada fitting checks found the XLG to fit like a true XL, with a slightly generous feel on some users.

If you are between two sizes, choose based on your preferred fit: your usual size for a closer operational fit, or the larger size if you prefer extra room, wear thicker base layers, or want more comfort under load-bearing equipment.
