Compact Law-Enforcement Respirator Filter

MIRA Safety P-CAN® Compact Filter

A lightweight, low-profile 40 mm respirator filter developed specifically for professional protection against riot-control agents. The P-CAN® Compact combines a hydrophobic P3 particulate stage, activated-carbon filtration and a shock-resistant housing in a compact 205-gram configuration.

205 G Lightweight Approximately 7.2 oz
90 MM Compact Diameter Reduced lateral profile
40 MM Standard Thread Compatible NATO-threaded respirators
A1SXP3 Filter Classification OC, CR and CS applications
10 YEARS Stored Shelf Life Under manufacturer storage conditions

Key Product Strengths

The P-CAN Compact was created for professional users who need riot-control-agent filtration without the size and weight of a full-capacity multigas CBRN canister.

Compact Operational Profile

A 90 mm diameter and 205 g weight reduce bulk around the face and improve compatibility with helmets and other protective equipment.

Riot-Control-Agent Protection

Designed for respiratory protection against professional law-enforcement irritants including CS, CR, CN and OC aerosols or vapours within the filter’s approved classification.

Hydrophobic P3 Stage

The particulate layer incorporates a water-resistant treatment that supports operation in rain, snow and changing outdoor conditions.

Long-Term Inventory Value

A ten-year stored shelf life supports police, corrections, public order and emergency-response equipment programs.

Purpose-Built for Police and Specialized Teams

Full-size CBRN filters provide broad protection but add weight and external bulk. The P-CAN Compact is a specialized alternative for known law-enforcement environments where the identified respiratory concern is primarily riot-control agents and airborne particulates.

Its reduced diameter helps keep the canister closer to the face, improving mobility around helmets, visors, shields and other equipment. The hard-plastic housing is designed to resist impact and demanding operational handling.

The filter should only be selected when the contaminant and required filter classification have been identified through the user organization’s approved respiratory-protection program.

Police Public-Order Operations Compact respiratory filtration for trained officers working under established agency procedures.
Specialized Tactical Teams Reduced size and weight support helmeted users and compact protective-equipment configurations.
Corrections and Institutional Response Suitable for authorized emergency-response programs involving known riot-control agents.
Stored Agency Programs Ten-year shelf life simplifies fleet, warehouse and emergency-cache planning.

Protection Profile

The P-CAN Compact is a specialized riot-control filter and should not be represented as a universal CBRN or multigas canister.

01

Riot-Control Agents

Designed for known irritant-agent environments involving CS, CR, CN and OC compounds according to the manufacturer’s classification and approved-use conditions.

02

Organic Vapours

A1 classification provides limited-capacity protection against qualifying organic gases and vapours with boiling points above 65°C.

03

Solid and Liquid Particles

The P3 stage provides high-efficiency particulate filtration for compatible solid and liquid aerosols.

04

Rain and Snow Exposure

Hydrophobic treatment on the particulate-filter stage helps maintain performance during outdoor weather exposure.

05

Dolomite Clogging Test

The “D” designation indicates testing against dolomite-dust clogging under the applicable European standard.

06

European Compliance

CE-marked and listed by the manufacturer as compliant with EN 14387:2004 + A1:2008.

Why Choose the Compact Version?

The P-CAN Compact weighs approximately 205 g, compared with 290 g for the larger standard P-CAN. Its diameter is reduced from approximately 110 mm to 90 mm.

This provides meaningful weight and size savings for officers carrying respiratory protection for extended periods or integrating it with helmets, visors and communications equipment.

The trade-off is lower filtration-media capacity than the larger P-CAN. The compact model should therefore be selected according to the agency’s identified hazard, duration requirements and approved respiratory-protection plan.

  • Approximately 205 g
  • 90 mm external diameter
  • 85 mm height
  • Reduced helmet interference
  • Less forward and lateral bulk
  • Professional 40 mm connection
  • Impact-resistant hard housing
  • Ten-year stored shelf life
Lower Weight Reduces the load supported by the respirator facepiece during prolonged wear.
Smaller Diameter Helps improve clearance around helmets, shoulder equipment and other protective systems.
Specialized Capacity Optimized for known law-enforcement irritants rather than broad unknown-threat protection.

Understanding the A1SXP3 D R Rating

The classification identifies the categories and performance features for which the filter is intended. It does not mean that the filter protects against every chemical or CBRN threat.

A1 Limited-capacity filtration for qualifying organic gases and vapours with boiling points above 65°C.
SX Protection against specifically identified substances, including the manufacturer-listed OC, CR and CS agents.
P3 High-efficiency particulate filtration for compatible solid and liquid aerosols.
D Tested against dolomite-dust loading and clogging under the applicable standard.
R Particulate-filter designation subject to manufacturer service-life and reuse requirements.

Professional Applications

LAW ENFORCEMENT

Public-Order Equipment

Compact filter option for trained police personnel operating under an approved respiratory-protection program.

TACTICAL

Specialized Police Teams

Supports low-profile protective configurations involving helmets, communications and tactical equipment.

CORRECTIONS

Institutional Response Teams

Suitable for authorized corrections and institutional emergency programs involving identified riot-control agents.

TRAINING

Agency Respirator Programs

Can be integrated into properly managed training, fit-testing and operational-equipment programs.

EMERGENCY CACHE

Vehicle and Facility Storage

Ten-year shelf life supports stored agency inventories and replacement programs.

PROFESSIONAL PPE

Known-Hazard Respiratory Protection

Appropriate only where the identified hazard falls within the filter’s certified protection profile.

Compatibility and Selection

Compatible Systems

The filter uses a standard 40 mm round respirator connection. The exact respirator thread and manufacturer compatibility must be confirmed before deployment.

  • Standard 40 mm threaded respirators
  • STANAG 4155 / EN 148-1 format listed
  • Compatible MIRA Safety full-face masks
  • Compatible professional 40 mm platforms
  • Facepiece must be correctly sized
  • Agency fit testing remains required

Important Incompatibility

Due to its shorter thread design, the P-CAN Compact is not compatible with the MIRA Safety MB-90® PAPR unit.

  • Not compatible with MB-90® PAPR
  • Not a universal powered-respirator canister
  • Do not force incompatible threaded connections
  • Confirm mask and filter specifications
  • Confirm the required protection category
  • Follow the approved respirator program

Critical Respiratory-Protection Limitations

The P-CAN Compact is a specialized filter for identified riot-control-agent and particulate hazards. It must not be used as a general-purpose solution for unknown atmospheres or contaminants outside its certified classification.

It does not supply oxygen and must never be relied upon in oxygen-deficient environments. It does not provide protection against carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, mercury vapours, radioactive iodine or every toxic industrial chemical.

Filter service life is not determined by shelf life. Actual operational service depends on contaminant type and concentration, humidity, temperature, breathing rate and other conditions. Replacement and disposal must follow the manufacturer’s instructions and the organization’s respiratory-protection program.

Respiratory filtration does not protect exposed eyes or skin. The complete facepiece, protective clothing and PPE configuration must be selected for the identified hazard by qualified personnel.
